Now entering . . . The Bird Phase

Lola loves to draw. In fact, she loves it so much that we had to start requiring her to purchase her own paper. She can easily go through a ream in a week. We were constantly running out of printer paper. Now she has learned to conserve. Sort of.

Anyway, she spent the first twelve years of her life drawing girls. My personal favorite is a little series she did on "Amanda Hela: Superheroine," including Amanda Rock Star and Amanda Steeming (sic) Mad. But all of a sudden, yesterday, Lola started drawing birds. Hundreds and hundreds of birds. Possibly thousands of birds. Here's my favorite:

Lola is willing to accept offers. Let the bidding begin!

What's the blog title about?

In 2010 I came across a series of vintage booklets entitled "Amy Vanderbilt Success Program for Women" (copyright 1965) at a thrift store. I didn't look inside any of them: the titles and cover art were funny enough that I had to have them. And it didn't hurt that I got four booklets for 25 cents. My favorite was "How to be a more interesting woman." Who could pass that up?

A few days later I started to look through the book for a laugh, and found myself almost immediately absorbed by the author's wisdom and wit. She made some good points . . . she made a lot of good points. This was something I could use, for who doesn't want to be more interesting? And here in my hands was a surprisingly progressive manual on how to do it.

So, in my newfound quest to be more interesting, I thought I'd use this forum to try things out and reflect on my efforts. In short, I hope to become the kind of person that continues to flower and grow.
