You may think the only reason to go to yard sales is to get people's used junk at really cheap prices.
Wrong. That's one reason to go to yard sales. The other is to get a handle on the cultural idiosyncracies of the area. Find out who your neighbors really are, that sort of thing.
For example, yesterday Sean was wearing his "Vote for Pedro" shirt.
Yard Sale Guy: Hey, there's a vinij t-shirt. Vote for Perot!
Bret: Uh, that's Pedro.
YSG: Oh! Pedro. Who's Pedro?
I don't really have a problem with the fact that the guy didn't know who Pedro was, but the fact that he couldn't read does disturb me a bit. You see a lot of illiteracy, actually, like when you find signs that read "Yard Sell." Too bad the people that can't read aren't dumb enough to let you relieve them of their stuff for less money, that's what I say.

Why have a yard sale when you can let the Mexicans sell your stuff? It's not so bad once you get used to the bad English (yard sell).
