Three Unrelated Stories about One Wacky Family
Story Number One: The Yard Sale Adventure
One Saturday morning, daltongirl and daltonboy woke up to beautiful weather. "This is it!" they said. "The day we've been waiting for all winter long. The day people start hauling their trash out into their front yards and selling it to us cheap!"
So they got into their car and drove all over North Utah County, stopping whenever they saw a front yard full of junk. One time daltonboy stopped at the house of a family that was just cleaning out their garage. He was about to start looking through their stuff when daltongirl (reluctantly) stopped him. Then she laughed and laughed.
Daltonboy was really happy when he found a printer for sale for $40. He was sad when daltongirl pointed out that she didn't want him to start buying printers again, since they just got rid of all the ones he had sitting in the basement. He was happy when he went home and looked that printer up on ebay and found one just like it that was selling for $400. He was even happier when he went back to that yard sale and the guy still had the printer. He was ecstatic when he saw that the guy had put a new sticker on the printer that said $30. He is looking forward to buying a new camera flash with the money he will make on that sale.
Daltongirl was happy when she found a thirty-year-old book of Sesame Street music. She is trying to decide whether or not to keep it, or give it to Sakhmet for her birthday.
After all their spending money was gone, daltongirl and daltonboy went home. Daltongirl made cookies, and everyone celebrated the fact that spring had finally arrived.
Story Number Two: The Prom
One Saturday Afternoon, daltonboy, jr. was getting ready to go to the prom. There wasn't a whole lot to do, other than take a shower and put on his tux. So he sat and thought about what had brought him to that point. First of all, his mom had got him free tickets, since she was on the PTA Board. That was a good deal. Then, his friend's parents offered to make the meal and charge each couple only $15. That was another good deal. Mom and Dad rented the tux. Good deal there, too. And the corsage was only $12. The only problem was that he didn't have a date. Then, a couple of days earlier, a friend told him about a girl who had just moved to their town and didn't know anyone. She really wanted to go to the prom. So he said he'd take her. It turns out he didn't even have to ask her--the friend did that, too.
So there he was, putting on his tux, getting ready to go pick up a girl he had never seen before. It turned out great. She was very nice, very cute, and she was wearing about six pounds of glitter. Mom's car got very sparkly.
They took pictures, they went to dinner, and they went to the dance. It was fun. Then they went over to a friend's house. Daltonboy, jr. was having a good time. He didn't want to go home yet. It was only 1:00 a.m. He called Dad and told him they were starting a movie, so he'd be home in a few hours. Dad wasn't very happy. Dad said he didn't think that was a good idea. Daltonboy, jr. was mad. He argued with Dad. Dad was mad, too. He was also tired. He wanted to sleep. So he told daltonboy, jr. to make his own decision and hung up the phone.
Daltonboy, jr. took his date home. Then he went home. That was a good choice, but he was still mad. He slammed a lot of doors and stomped around. Mom and Dad woke up. Again. They didn't like being woken up, but maybe they deserved it for being so strict.
The next day, daltonboy, jr. was late for church. He was tired. It is hard to get up when you have been out late. Maybe next time he will come home early. Mom was tired, too. She only got three hours of sleep, because people kept waking her up and she has a very hard time getting back to sleep. She was not late for church, but she was pretty cranky all day. She showed daltonboy, jr. and daltonkid how to close doors quietly when they come home in the middle of the night. There were a lot of good lessons learned that day.
Story Number Three: The PTA Meeting
Daltongirl woke up to another beautiful day. Birds were singing, and that bed was comfy. She had slept well. It was 6:45. She lay in bed and wondered what she would do that day. Maybe she would plant some more flowers. Maybe she would work on her scrapbook. It would be a relaxing day. Just then she remembered: there is a PTA meeting today at 10:00. She thought about that for a minute. Then she remembered that she had promised to make three quiches for the meeting.
Daltongirl got out of bed and quickly went to the kitchen. She started making pie crusts. Then she looked in some recipe books. She wondered if she had ingredients to make three quiches. She didn't. She made a list. When the pie crusts were done, she took Lola to school. Then she rushed to the store. She almost knocked over an old man as she ran to the checkout with her cart full of cheese and eggs. The old man looked scared. He stopped his cart and told daltongirl to go first. He didn't want to risk a broken hip.
The checker looked at daltongirl's groceries. She said, "That is a lot of cheese!" Daltongirl said, "Yes, it is," but what she really wanted to say was, "I have to make three quiches in an hour and a half and I only have one rack in my oven! Cut the small talk and bag my stuff!" She grabbed her bag and ran from the store.
Back at home, daltongirl mixed up the ingredients for the first quiche. Things were going well. She popped it in the oven. Then she started mixing up the ingredients for the second quiche. She grabbed a can of tomatoes. Too bad! The can lid got stuck under her fingernail and sliced her finger open. "It's a good thing tomatoes are red," daltongirl thought. "I don't have time to wash my finger." Not very much blood got into the quiche mix.
After all the quiches were done, daltongirl packed them in the car and raced away. She arrived at the PTA meeting just in time. Her quiches were very pretty and delicious, and everyone complimented her. Daltongirl was happy, but it was too bad her kitchen was such a mess. It was also too bad her finger was throbbing. But at least there was some leftover quiche. Now the kids could have a yummy after-school snack.
Daltongirl went home and took one look at her kitchen. It was very messy. She decided to go in and blog for a while before she took on her next adventure.

This post was a perfect example of what I love about you.
If I had a car (and if I had read this earlier) I would have swung by for an after-school snack. Mmmm. Quiche!
Did you find anything good that you DIDN'T buy at the garage sales?
