Hi, I'm Daltongirl, I'll be your Gospel Doctrine teacher today.

So we were playing a scripture game this afternoon. It was my turn. I was behind. You'll see why in a second.

Me: Give me the question that says, "What is the name of Ruth's mother-in-law?"

Lola: I know! It's Naomi.

Me: Don't give me the answer. Then it won't count when I get it right.

Lola (looks at card): Sorry. The question is, "Who was Elimelech's wife?"

Me: Hannah.

Lola: Nope. Naomi.

Me: Crap.

The good news is, I knew exactly where to find the scripture that told me how to spell Elimelech.

What's the blog title about?

In 2010 I came across a series of vintage booklets entitled "Amy Vanderbilt Success Program for Women" (copyright 1965) at a thrift store. I didn't look inside any of them: the titles and cover art were funny enough that I had to have them. And it didn't hurt that I got four booklets for 25 cents. My favorite was "How to be a more interesting woman." Who could pass that up?

A few days later I started to look through the book for a laugh, and found myself almost immediately absorbed by the author's wisdom and wit. She made some good points . . . she made a lot of good points. This was something I could use, for who doesn't want to be more interesting? And here in my hands was a surprisingly progressive manual on how to do it.

So, in my newfound quest to be more interesting, I thought I'd use this forum to try things out and reflect on my efforts. In short, I hope to become the kind of person that continues to flower and grow.
